All Cherokee County School Students Will Eat Free Thanks To The USDA

All Cherokee County Schools have been approved for a USDA waiver allowing them to provide breakfast and lunch meals for virtual and traditional learners at no cost to families.

That announcement was made during Tuesday’s meeting of the Cherokee County School Board.

The measure was approved beginning Tuesday and ending December 31. Parents are asked to continue to complete and submit applications for free and reduced meals as usual so correct statuses will be in place when the waiver ends.

In other business, after hearing from Chief Financial Officer Robin Cunningham the board at the recommendation of Superintendent of Education Mitchell Guice approved the Fiscal 2021 Budget, Superintendent Elect Mike Welsh was also present during the presentation and Guice stated that he sought input from Welsh since most of the Capital Improvement Projects in the new budget would take place under the new administration.

The Board also approved the 2020-2021 renewal of Alabama Trust for Boards of Education Automobile Participation in addition to the 2020-2021 renewal of the Alabama Trust of Boards of Education General Liability/Errors and Omissions Liability Fund Participation.

The following bids were also accepted; Garbage Bid, Advanced Disposal, Rotary Screw Air Compressor to Alabama Compressed Air Service and Furniture Bid to Observer Supply.
