Anniston Man Arrested on Drug Charge in Cherokee County

According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver – Tuesday, May 17th, Kody Blake Smelley, age 25 of Anniston was arrested, after throwing illegal substances out of a car window, and leading deputies on a brief chase.  

Cherokee County Deputies Jeremy Stepps and Hunter Brisendine attempted to perform the traffic stop on County Road 19; however that suspect continued onto County Road 71, then County Road 38, where he tossed objects out of the car window. 

Deputies soon recovered the discarded items which included methamphetamine and illegal pills in addition to marijuana.  He was placed under arrest, and charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with physical evidence and also attempting to elude. 

He was transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center.
