Anniston Police Investigate Fatal Shooting

lonnie spinksAnniston Police are investigating a fatal shooting in the Central City area.

Capt. Allen George said in a news release officers were dispatched to Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center around midnight Thursday on reports of someone being shot.

There, they found a wounded man, 55-year-old Marlin Monroe Jones of Anniston. After some questioning, investigators learned that Jones and two other people had been at a residence in the 3500 block of West 14th Street during an argument.

Apparently, the victim and two others were driving out of the yard when someone fired shots at the vehicle. Jones was struck once in the lower left portion of his back. He was later pronounced dead this morning.

George said police have arrested Lonnie Spinks, 32, of Hobson City, on charges of capital murder. The investigation is continuing.
