Another DeKalb County Constable Resigns

Sheriff Jimmy Harris reports that he received a letter of resignation from Constable Grant Johnson of District 4.

Constable Johnson said in his letter that “it has been an honor and a privilege serving with you for this short length of time in this great county. There comes a time in everyone’s life where changes are necessary.”

The reasoning behind Constable Johnson’s resignation is due to him moving from DeKalb County to reside in Marshall County.

Sheriff Harris states “because you have to live in that district you are elected constable, this makes Johnson ineligible to serve. We had 4 Constables in DeKalb County, one in each commission district.

We just recently had Kneeley Pack Place 1 constable to resign after pleading guilty to fraud. Grant Johnson has called me offering his assistance to us on several occasions.

As well as Constable Jimmy Carter of the Collinsville area. I have always been hesitant to call on any constable because they are not covered under any type of liability through the County. Some Counties in the State use constables to serve papers and pay them for this service.

The Sheriff’s Office receives thousands of civil papers each month and it would be great if we could use the constables as process servers. Doing so would allow the deputies to spend more time on patrol or working on criminal cases.

I would like to thank Constable Johnson for serving District 4 and wish him the best of luck.”
