Another Successful Liberty Day In Cedar Bluff

Despite the extremely hot temperatures spectators once again enjoyed another Liberty Day Celebration in Cedar Bluff over the weekend.

Mayor Tammy Crane said that there were approximately over 40 plus vendors at this year’s event with several newcomers including a petting zoo, Birmingham based Game Zone which is a mobile game truck that has 7 Hi Def TVs and 28 separate gaming systems, and the addition of several more inflatable’s and water slides for the kids.

Strong storms rumbled through the area as the annual fireworks show was set to begin and many chose to head for the gates but many stuck it out as officials with the pyrotechnic company were able to successfully able complete the show.

In the spirit of trying something different this year the Cedar Bluff Fire Department opted to sale ribeye steak sandwiches, hamburgers and hotdogs instead of the usual BBQ plates as in the past

We spoke to Cedar Bluff Fire Chief Shawn Rogers who wished to thank each and every one who came by and purchased food and/or refreshments during this year’s Liberty Day celebration.

The proceeds from those sales will go toward the purchase of much needed equipment to ensure the safety and well being of all the firefighters and the community.

Chief Rogers said he hopes to be able to allocate some of the proceeds toward the purchase of new extrication tools that will be placed on the fire trucks.

These tools are commonly referred to as the “jaws of life”.  Chief Rogers said the addition of this equipment will be utilized by his department to assist the Cherokee County Rescue Squad with their efforts in Crash Victim Extrication. The Rescue Squad is tasked with the responsibility of providing victim extrication throughout the county. Chief Rogers says he wants to be able to supplement the Rescue Squad by having these tools available to respond from our station within minutes.

From the time the call is dispatched to the time we arrive on-scene the Cedar Bluff Fire Department has an average response time of 5-8 minutes depending on the location of the call.

Chief Rogers says he strives to make sure that the firefighters of the Cedar Bluff Fire Department has the best equipment and training to better serve its citizens and the visitors that frequent our town and surrounding area.

Cedar Bluff Mayor Tammy Crane also wishes to express her sincere gratitude to all the town employees and volunteers who worked tirelessly for several months helping to make sure this year’s event was successful.
