The first Alabama Sports Writers Association baseball and softball rankings were released late Wednesday evening, and several area teams are scattered about them.

In baseball, the Piedmont Bulldogs (9-3) lead the area by coming in at No. 4 in Class 3A, followed by Sand Rock (5-1) at No. 5 and Spring Garden (8-5) at No. 7 in Class 2A.

The Collinsville Panthers (8-6) received consideration for the Class 3A baseball poll.

In softball, Cherokee County (7-2) and Spring Garden (2-1) both come in at No. 7 in Class 4A and 2A respectively. Sand Rock (4-6) opens at No. 8 in Class 2A.

Piedmont (5-4) received consideration for the Class 3A softball rankings.
