Authorities Searching For Woman Who Escaped In Handcuffs

DeKalb County authorities are searching for a woman who escaped after being taken into custody by sheriff’s deputies.

Drug agents and sheriff’s deputies went to a residence on County Road 696 in the McKestes area to serve a drug search warrant. Upon the search of the residence, officials found 80 grams of meth, valued at $8,000. They also recovered three loaded pistols and drug paraphernalia.

Anthony Earl Renfroe, 47, and Courtney Dawn Steele, 34, were both arrested. Renfroe was charged with drug trafficking.

While deputies were finishing up on the scene, they noticed that Steele had escaped through the window of a deputy’s car with her hands still handcuffed behind her back.

The DeKalb County sheriff’s office said that Courtney Dawn Steele is still at large and is facing felony drug charges and escape charges. Steele is 34 years old with dark brown hair, 5’4 and weighs about 110 pounds. She was last seen wearing a navy blue shirt and blue jeans.

Sheriff Harris said, “These drug task force agents are doing an outstanding job. They have been working Renfroe for some time now. We want the public to continue to call in any information they have on drugs or any other illegal activity.”
