Authorities Trying To Determine How An Unloaded Gun Got Into A Gadsden Elementary School

Gadsden Police and school administrators are investigating the discovery of an unloaded gun, on the campus of an elementary school.

Police and the Gadsden city school superintendent say a student at Oscar Adams Elementary School, on Raley Street in East Gadsden, apparently brought an unloaded handgun to school.

Gadsden police say a school resource officer quickly took appropriate action.

The superintendent says they even investigated a rumor a student pointed the gun at another student, but determined that part to be hoax.

Superintendent Tony Reddick says many parents of students who were somehow involved in the incident, were upset because they found out about it on social media before school personnel had a chance to notify them.

Police public information officer Sgt. John Hallman says investigators are still looking into how and why the gun made it on campus.
