UPDATE| Autopsy Planned for Man Who Died After Altercation in Front of Etowah County Sheriff’s Office

An investigation is now underway into the death of a man involved in a physical altercation with two deputies outside the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday afternoon.  According to a news release from the Office of Sheriff Todd Entrekin, shortly before 5:00pm woman came into the office saying there was a man in the parking lot causing a disturbance and harassing people. 

Two deputies met that subject just as he was about to enter the Sheriff’s Office and began to speak with him.  Moments later there was an altercation and a taser was used on the man.  Medical personnel were called to the scene and the subject was then transported to an area hospital where he later died; the cause of death is unknown at this time and an autopsy will be performed.

Authorities have identified the man as 39-year-old Christopher Shane McKinney. McKinney’s cause of death is currently not known. Authorities say an autopsy will be performed to determine the precise cause of death.

Investigators with the Oxford Police Department will be working the case.

No additional information is being released at this time.
