Bates, Howell earn 700th volleyball match win as Sand Rock goes 3-1 at Supreme Courts Tournament in Guntersville

GUNTERSVILLE – Sand Rock volleyball coaches Lisa Bates and Johnny Howell won their 700th match Saturday against Athens, as the Lady Wildcats went 3-1 in the Supreme Courts Tournament at Guntersville.

Bates and Howell are both in their 20th volleyball season at Sand Rock.

Senior middle hitter Lanie Henderson also surpassed 1,000 kills for her career against Athens. She finished with 28 kills and five blocks for the day and now has 1,012 career kills.

The Lady Wildcats (26-6) won their pool, putting them in the gold bracket. In pool play, Sand Rock defeated North Jackson 25-12, 25-8; Calera 25-6, 25-11; and beat Athens in a close match 23-25, 27-25, 15-13.

The Lady Wildcats then fell in the first round of the gold bracket to Grissom 20-25, 19-25.

Katelyn St. Clair posted 40 kills and 23 digs for the day. McKenna Ballenger contributed 84 assists, 32 digs and six aces. Caley Garrett posted 71 digs.

Jadyn Foster collected 24 kills and 20 digs. Chloe Stephens added 24 digs, seven aces and six kills. Jacey Stephens finished with six kills and three aces.

Sand Rock travels to Gaston for a tri-match with Saks on Monday.
