Authorities in neighboring Chattooga County, Georgia have issued a ‘Be On The Lookout’ for a suspect involved in a double homicide in the Holland Community on Tuesday morning.

According to information obtained by WEIS Radio News the suspect is identified as Steven Mauldin, Mauldin is believed to be in a 2003 Honda Civic silver in color with a Georgia license plate RMR8244.

We have been working closely with WZQZ in Chattooga County and the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office to provide updates on this story as they develop.

1:57 PM – Chattooga County School Supt. Jared Hosmer issued this statement: “After speaking with Sheriff Schrader, the District will make contact with the parents of students that ride Bus 64 and Bus 85 and live in the area between Wiggins Road and Hwy 100 and between Holland-Chattoogaville Road and the Floyd County line on Hwy 100 to ensure that someone is at home before we let students off the bus. We will also contact the parents of any high school age student in that same area that may drive themselves to school. After school activities will proceed as normal. We will have SROs on site for coverage of the afternoon activities.”

1:48 PM – WZQZ News has learned that a BOLO was issued in Cherokee County, Alabama for a vehicle and suspect “in connection with a double homicide in Chattooga County, Georgia.”  Our colleagues at WEIS Radio in Centre, Alabama say the BOLO is for a “2003 silver, Honda Civic Georgia license plate number-  RMR8244. The subject is Steven Mauldin , white male”. Chattooga County Chief Deputy Kevin Woods said that he could confirm the description of the vehicle that was issued in the BOLO, but could not confirm the identity of the suspect.  We will have updates as soon as possible.

10:48 AM – Sheriff Mark Schrader released this statement: “At this point, we have reason to believe there may be another person involved that was not on the scene when we first arrived. We aren’t sure if that person may have left on foot or in a vehicle. Will update when possible.”

9:43 AM – Chattooga County School Superintendent Jared Hosmer says that Chattooga High School, Lyerly Elementary School and Summerville Middle School are on “Code Yellow” which means a higher alert that normal due to the shooting situation in Holland.  The superintendent told WZQZ News that the schools are not on “lock-down” but security has been increased as a precaution.

9:38 AM – Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader says that law enforcement is currently investigating a triple shooting on Highway 100 past the Holland Community.  According to Sheriff Schrader, two people are dead and one person has been transported to an area hospital for treatment.  The sheriff said that they are still trying to determine if there were additional persons involved in the shooting.  The shooting happened at a residence near the Floyd County line.  The sheriff says that people in the area should use caution and alert law enforcement if they see anyone on foot.  This is a developing story and WZQZ will have more information as it becomes available.

Previous:

Emergency personnel are on the scene on Highway 100 in the Holland Community where three people have been shot.  According to early reports, there are two people dead and one wounded.  WZQZ will have more information as it becomes available.

UPDATE: Sheriff Mark Schrader says that they are still processing details and working on the shooting in Holland.  – “We can confirm that tow people are deceased and one has been transported to an area hospital.  we will update when we can. People in the Holland area should use caution if they see anyone on foot.  At this time we are unsure if there are additional persons involved.”
