Betty Ruth Cook Singleton, age 87 of Centre, passed away on Monday, November 22, 2021, at her home in Austin, Texas.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 4th from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Perry Funeral Home followed by a burial service at Cherokee Memory Garden Cemetery in Centre, AL. Because of Betty’s love for children in lieu of flowers, feel free to honor her memory by contributing to CASA of Travis County, TX, the Alzheimer’s Association, or another charity of your choice.
Pallbearers will include Danny Singleton, Randy Cook, Dan Byrne, Conor Byrne, Devin Byrne, and Liam Kozma.
Survivors include her son, Danny Singleton and his wife, Laura Singleton, her daughter, Darlene Byrne, and her husband Dan Byrne, her siblings, Larry Cook and his wife, Barbara Cook, June Morrison and her husband Glenn Morrison, Randy Cook and his wife, Sue Cook, her grandchildren, Anna Laura Singleton, Jonathan Singleton, Matthew Singleton, Nathan Singleton, Hannah Kate Singleton, Erin Kozma and her husband, Maj. Liam Kozma, Conor Byrne and Devin Byrne.
She is preceded in death by her sweetheart and husband of 59 years, Jimmy Singleton, and her siblings, Aaron Grady Cook, Grady Lee Cook, Jr., George Nathaniel Cook, Rachel Louise Cook Driver, Annice Elizabeth Cook Gresham, and Gail Ruth Cook Dunn.
Betty was the proud daughter of the late Rev. Grady Lee Cook and Annice Christine Cook.
If you knew Betty, you would know she was a proud big sister. She started most conversations with “I am the oldest of ten.” Betty was a “glass is half full” type of person. She loved life, her family, and her friends. She had a wanderlust as well. She scratched that itch by becoming a motorhome tour guide in the later years of her working life. She toured all 50 states, Mexico, and Canada. She was an amazing mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren often had summer vacations at Camp Singleton where they played in the lake, pool, hot tub, on the tractor, lawn mowers and golf carts. Betty was a noun and verb. In her children’s homes—you would know you had been Betty’d when your clothes had been washed, your room had been tidied and your dishes all cleaned without you even knowing they were dirty yet. She was a proud ambassador for Christ. As a preacher’s daughter, she had a love for God and knew her God is a very good God. Even in her days battling Alzheimer’s she was a faithful church goer and took the time to pray for and with the many who cared for and served her. Betty will be missed by her family and friends. Truly heaven welcomed an angel home on Nov. 22, 2021.
