Bicyclist Collides with Car on Old Summerville Road in Rome

A Summerville woman was air-lifted to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga after being struck while riding her bicycle on Old Summerville Road near Stonebridge Drive in Rome.

According to the police report the driver of a 2011 Toyota Corolla told officers he slowed to around 25 miles an hour as he approached the bicyclist and moved to the southbound lanes in an attempt to pass.  As he was passing, the bike began to turn left and was hit by the car.

74 year old Susan Mullis wasn’t responsive when officers arrived on the scene but was alert enough to give her name just prior to being transported.

According to a social media post from the family, she sustained a head injury but is in stable condition and was alert and conscious on Sunday.

At the time of the police report, no charges had been filed.
