Billy Bob Thornton: “I Never Felt Good Enough” for Angelina Jolie

ABC/Randy Holmes(NEW YORK) — In a straight-shooting interview with GQBad Santa series star Billy Bob Thornton opens up about his highly-publicized but brief marriage to Angelina Jolie, his music career, and why, despite directing the Oscar-winning Sling Blade, he won’t step behind the camera again.

On fellow Oscar-winner Jolie, who is also a U.N. goodwill ambassador, Thornton says, “I never felt good enough for her.”  He adds, “I’m real uncomfortable around rich and important people,” and claim he’d rather hang at home than at some red carpet event.

Thornton, who’s still friendly with Jolie, admits that he didn’t feel he needed to change to keep their marriage afloat, saying, “I like how I am.”

As for his directing career, Thornton says the box office failures of his movies All the Pretty Horses and Jayne Mansfield’s Car have left him disenchanted.

“It takes too much out of you to write a movie and direct it and spend you know, a year and a half of your life on it and then have people either sh** on it or not see it,” he says matter-of-factly. “Maybe if I make it to 85 or something, I’ll sit around and write a novel.”

“I’m just going to be in the Boxmasters,” he said of his rock group. “I’m just going to be in a band and be an actor. That’s it.”

But if you do go check out Billy Bob performing with the Boxmasters, don’t try to ask him for an autograph backstage.

“Sure, I’ll sign your Sling Blade DVD,” Thornton says snarkily. “And you can go home and…never have an original creative idea in your life.”  He also used some choice words to indicate that his fans’ sex lives must be extremely boring.
