A man who was found dead Monday in the Tennessee River in north Alabama is believed to have jumped from a bridge in Tennessee around three weeks earlier.
The man was identified as 66 year old George Koontz, who had been reported missing from Chattanooga, Tennessee on January 29th. According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, his body was found in the river near Guntersville Dam on Monday afternoon.
Due to the heavy rainfall over the past several weeks flood gates have remained open along the Tennessee River – leading investigators to believe that allowed the body to travel more than 120 miles from Chattanooga to Guntersville since Koontz’ disappearance. The Sheriff’s Office investigated the case along with the Marshall County Coroner and officers from TVA and Chattanooga.
