Bond Reduction Denied For Accused Killer

CCSO - Pegg

22 year old John Denver Pegg will remain behind bars, following the recent refusal by a Calhoun County Circuit Judge to reduce the $100,000 bond on his murder charge.

Pegg stands accused of shooting and killing his girlfriend, Elizabeth Lauren Harnett in December of last year (2013).

Weaver Police Chief Wayne Bush, said officers found the victim lying outside the Shannon Hills Apartment Complex on December 19th, with a gunshot wound to the chest.  She was transported to Regional Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.

John Denver Pegg was arrested that same day at his home, by Clay County Deputies on a Failure to Appear Warrant, for a traffic violation – he has been in the Calhoun County Jail on the murder warrant since January 7th (2014).

Calhoun County Chief Assistant District Attorney Lynn Hammond told the Anniston Star Friday that she had asked the judge to deny that bond reduction request, citing past behavior indicating that he may be a flight risk.
