Cherokee County authorities are still awaiting word from the Department of Forensic Sciences – in Huntsville – regarding the identity of the woman whose body was recovered from Weiss Lake on Friday afternoon.
Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver said a fisherman spotted what appeared to be a body Friday around 4:45pm and immediately contacted authorities in Leesburg.
The body was removed from the lake behind Yellow Creek Missionary Baptist Church and sent to Huntsville in order to determine a positive ID and the exact cause of death.
The Leesburg Police Department is heading up the investigation with assistance of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office among others.
