BREAKING NEWS: Cedar Bluff’s Carpenter announces retirement

CEDAR BLUFF – Cedar Bluff basketball and track and field head coach Joe Carpenter turned in his resignation to the Cherokee County Board of Education on Wednesday. His resignation takes effect June 1.

Carpenter retires after winning over 700 basketball games in 36 years. He captured his 700th victory in the Lady Tigers’ 65-32 win over Cherokee County High School on Dec. 5, 2019. Carpenter led the Tiger boys to state Final Four appearances in 2011 and 2012, and the Lady Tigers to the Final Four in 2013.

Carpenter also made a mark in coaching track and field, leading the Lady Tigers to six straight Class 1A state championships (2007-2012).
