The Air Academy Federal Credit Union is pulling its sponsorship of the 32-year-old linebacker after he kneeled during “The Star Spangled Banner” before the team’s 21-20 victory over the Carolina Panthers.

“Although we have enjoyed Brandon Marshall as our spokesperson over the past five months, Air Academy Federal Credit Union (AAFCU) has ended our partnership,” a statement from the company said. “AAFCU is a membership-based organization who has proudly served the military community for over 60 years. While we respect Brandon’s right of expression, his actions are not a representation of our organization and membership. We wish Brandon well on his future endeavors.”

Marshall’s protest comes after San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick first made headlines by sitting on the sidelines during the national anthem and then choosing to take a knee in protest of race relations in the country. U.S. soccer star Megan Rapinoe also recently took a knee before a match.
