Calhoun County Coroner Pat Brown has been indicted on a charge of Using his Position for Personal Gain – a felony. He was booked in at the Etowah County Jail at 1:03pm on Monday and released at 1:08pm after posting bond of $5,000.
According to court records an Etowah County grand jury had issued the indictment back on September 6th and that indictment was made public on Monday following Brown’s booking into the county jail.
The charge is apparently connected to Brown serving as EMS Program Director at Gadsden State Community College.
The indictment reads that during his employment at Gadsden State, Brown “did intentionally use – or cause to be used, equipment, time, material, human labor or other public property under his discretion or control for the private benefit or business benefit of the public official or public employee or any person which would materially affect his financial interest.”
No additional information has been released.
Brown was first elected coroner in 2006 and took office in 2007.
