Calhoun County Deputy Saves Mother & Three Children From Burning Car

Benjamin Kiser

Calhoun County Deputy Benjamin Kiser is being recognized for outstanding work following his heroic actions in the wake on an auto accident on Tuesday of this week.

WEIS Radio News spoke to Calhoun County Chief Deputy Matthew Wade by phone on Thursday

He rushed to the car, where he found a woman and three children inside.

At that moment the vehicle caught fire – and the deputy helped get the occupants safely out of the vehicle. After other emergency personnel arrived on the scene, Deputy Kiser helped fight the flames with an EMS fire extinguisher until the fire department arrived.

Chief Deputy Wade credits Kiser’s extremely quick – and brave – actions with saving the lives of the mother and her three children.

The woman was airlifted to UAB Hospital for treatment while one of the children was taken to Children’s Hospital and the other two were treated at Regional Medical Center.
