Calhoun County Deputy Struck by Car Remains Hospitalized at UAB

Deputy Hit by CarAccording to information contained in the news release from Calhoun County Chief Deputy Matthew Wade – a deputy who was struck by a vehicle while directing traffic at an accident scene early Monday morning remains at UAB Hospital.

The deputy’s name is not being released at the request of family members; however, Sheriff Larry Amerson says the individual is an eleven year veteran of the department and is an ex-Marine.

At 6:15 Monday morning the deputy was hit by a vehicle at the intersection of U.S. 431 and Bynum/Leatherwood Road sending the officer more than 100 feet from the point of impact

He suffered numerous broken bones and is currently sedated and on a ventilator.
