Following a career spanning more than 41 years – with  22 of those serving as sheriff, Larry Amerson will soon no longer be an active part of Calhoun County law enforcement.

According to the article in the Anniston Star, Amerson – who had already announced that he wouldn’t be seeking re-election, has stepped down and Chief Deputy Matthew Wade will be finishing out the remainder of his term as sheriff.

chief-deputy-matthew-wadeWade is certainly no newcomer to the law enforcement field – being hired part-time back in January, 1996 at the sheriff’s office; he was the second Jacksonville State University student to be hired by the organization, coming on-board at $5.00 an hour.

Over the course of his career Wade has worked as a deputy, investigator, and an emergency services team member before being promoted to the position of Chief Deputy in 2005.

Wade will officially take on the mantle of Calhoun County Sheriff October 1st (2016).
