Police have finally made two arrests, one coming in Calhoun County in the 1988 slaying of a pregnant South Bend, Indiana woman who was beaten to death while walking her dog.  The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office said that 76 year old George Kearney, and 56 year old Barbara Brewster, stand charged with one count of Murder each in the killing of 28 year old Miriam Rice.

Kearney was arrested last Friday in South Bend – meanwhile Brewster was apprehended in Calhoun County (Alabama) and is awaiting extradition to Indiana.  Rice left her home on the night of June 24th, 1988 with her dog, and never returned.  Her dog was found the next day.

Rice’s body was found with multiple skull fractures four days later around two miles from her home.  She was four months pregnant.
