Careers on Wheels Day Event Held at Sand Rock School

A new event aimed to teach kids about some of the different jobs that use specialty vehicles came to Sand Rock on Wednesday.

The 2019 Careers on Wheels Day, sponsored by TDS, saw Kindergarten through 6th grade Wildcat students visiting several different vehicles that were brought out, and heard from the people behind them who helped them understand the purpose of their specialty vehicle to their job.

Joining TDS at the event were Big Jon’s Lock & Key of Leesburg, CW McClain Wrecker Service of Collinsville, Floyd EMS, Sand Rock Fire Department, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, and the State Trooper’s Marine Patrol. WEIS Radio also got in on the fun, bringing out our Mobile Broadcast Unit for the Careers on Wheels Day.

The WEIS Road Crew showed off the radio station on wheels and talked with the Sand Rock kids about the WEIS mobile unit’s many uses, from the Tailgate Show during football season, to helping out local businesses with promoting their big events by coming out and broadcasting from them, and even our disaster relief efforts like helping during the 2018 Jacksonville tornado crisis.

The people at TDS that put on the event hope that this will continue as an annual occasion, with each year going to a different school in the county so all of the elementary kids can have a look into more career options as they enter into their middle and high school years.
