Cause Of Fatal Fire In Piedmont Undetermined

Fire

Still no word yet on the cause of a fire Friday in Piedmont that claimed the life of a one-year old child.

Fire Marshal Edward Paulk was recently quoted in the Anniston Star as saying his department has finished investigating the scene, but must do further research and wait for the results of medical tests to close the case.

Until then the cause of the blaze will be undetermined.

Calhoun County Coroner Pat Brown said over the weekend that Korbyn Stitts appeared to have died from smoke inhalation shortly after the blaze began.

The homeowner, Drusilla Fife, and her four grandchildren were in the house when the fire began.

Firefighters attempted to rescue the child, but were unable to reach him due to the flames.

One firefighter received burns through his thermal equipment.

The Piedmont Benevolence Center and the Calhoun-Cleburne Chapter of the American Red Cross are partnering to help the family.
