CEDAR BLUFF – Cedar Bluff volleyball coach Lyndsey Barker Mullins tinkered with her lineup a bit Tuesday morning by moving Jordyn Walker to libero and starting ninth grader Graceland Benton in multiple positions.

Mullins might just be on to something with those moves.

The Lady Tigers swept Valley Head 25-10, 25-6, 25-6 and then defeated Coosa Christian 25-22, 20-25, 25-18, 25-13 to win the Class 1A, Area 13 volleyball tournament. The wins send Cedar Bluff (15-14) to the sub-regional round, where the Lady Tigers will host Area 11 runner-up Appalachian on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Mullins said she’s proud of how well her team responded, especially after Coosa Christian tied the championship match up at a set apiece.

“Although we were frustrated, we didn’t give up,” she said. “I was proud of the girls for digging in and pushing through.”

In the championship match, Russell Givens collected 20 kills, five aces, four blocks and two digs. Erin McFry managed six kills and six aces. Walker posted 18 digs, six kills and two assists. Maggie Clowdis contributed 42 assists and three kills. Emma Haney had five digs, three kills and an ace. Haley Allen added four digs, two aces, a kill and an assist. Benton finished with four kills and three digs.

Against Valley Head, Givens delivered eight kills and two aces. Clowdis collected 14 assists, seven aces, three kills. McFry came away with seven aces. Haney collected four kills and four aces. Allen contributed five aces. Lacie White posted five aces, a dig and an assist. Benton had two aces and a kill. Caley Bruce added two aces. Lacie Smith managed an ace. Breanna and Shaya Satcher both finished with a kill.
