Cedar Bluff defeats Gaylesville to win Class 1A, Area 13 softball title

CEDAR BLUFF – Harlie Nelson went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs to lead the Cedar Bluff Lady Tigers to a a 14-2 win in five innings over Gaylesville in the Class 1A, Area 13 softball championship game on Friday.

Haley Allen went 2-for-3 with a double and a RBI for the Lady Tigers. Jordyn Walker and Mattie Payne also both posted a pair of hits. Walker also drove in a run.

Mary Sausville contributed a double and three RBIs. Emma Haney had a triple. Maggie Clowdis and Reece Patterson both contributed a hit and a RBI. Caitlin Slayton finished with a hit.

Patterson earned the win in the circle. She finished with nine strikeouts.

Malaya Shireman suffered the loss for the Lady Trojans. She also had a pair of hits at the plate. Sierra Holbrook doubled. Emma Givens walked twice.

Gaylesville defeated Valley Head 10-0 to reach the championship game. Valley Head defeated the Lady Trojans 6-2 to open the tournament on Thursday.

For the tournament, Holbrook went 4-for-12 with three doubles and a RBI. Peyton Bright was 3-for-10 with a double and five RBIs. Givens went 4-for-8 with a double and 2 RBIs. Shireman was 5-for-11 with a double, a triple and three RBI. Anna Hartline went 2-for-5, and Andreah Calvert was 4-for-8.

Shireman struck out 20 batters in the three games.

Both the Lady Trojans and Lady Tigers will advance to the East Central Regional in Montgomery next week. Gaylesville takes on Appalachian and Cedar Bluff battles Victory Christian. Both games are Wednesday at 1:45 p.m. at Lagoon Park.
