Cedar Bluff Fire Department Receives $1,000 From Lake Weiss Real Estate

The Cedar Bluff Fire Department was honored during the regular meeting of the Cedar Bluff Town Council on Monday. Lake Weiss Real Estate presented the department with a check for $1,000 in appreciation for their dedicated service to the community.

In other business the council approved the minutes from their July meeting in addition to approving the financials for the month of June. The council also received the monthly report from Police Chief Steve Walden and the Fire Department report from Captain Geno Smith and Assistant Chief Matthew Sprayberry in the absence of Chief Jason Stewart.

At the recommendation of Councilman Jerry Sprayberry, the council approved the purchase of two new chainsaws for the fire department at a cost of $399 each from Ray’s Saws. This will equip each of the departments’ vehicles with new saws.

Some detailed discussion was given regarding zoning as it relates to mobile homes in certain areas. Mayor Crane said that the town is currently seeking advice from the town’s legal counsel regarding what needs to be done to correct some of the issues.

The town is continuing to work with the state highway department to ensure that the school zone at Cedar Bluff School is properly signed and in compliance with state code.

The Alabama Department of Transportation recently placed new signage up in the school zone and with those signs now in place, the state says that the school zone is in compliance. The signs were installed at no cost to the town.

The Cedar Bluff Town Council meets on the second Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. with a planning session at 5:00 p.m., those meetings are held at Cedar Bluff Town Hall and are always open to the public.
