The Cedar Bluff Tigers and Spring Garden Panthers clash Thursday night at L.D. Bruce Field in Week 1 of the high school football season, and the stakes have been raised a bit for both teams.

The Class 1A Tigers (0-0) moved up a spot to No. 6, while the Class 2A Panthers (0-0) inched up to No. 9 in the latest Alabama Sports Writers Association football rankings. The latest poll was released late Tuesday evening.

Cedar Bluff and Spring Garden were the only two teams whose stocks rose in the latest rankings. Defending state champion Piedmont (0-0) remains atop the 3A poll. The Bulldogs travel to Class 4A Cherokee County on Friday night.

Speaking of the Warriors (1-0), who are coming off a 41-0 victory against Carver of Birmingham last Friday, they are still among the teams receiving votes for the poll.
