Cedar Bluff Town Council Announces Fireworks Only For 2020 Liberty Day

Fireworks are still on the agenda for Liberty Day.

The announcement came during the Monday meeting of the Cedar Bluff Town Council. Mayor Tammy Crane said that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they will only have fireworks for Liberty Day. Vendors and activities will not be scheduled this year. Fireworks will start at 9:00 on Friday, July 3, 2020

Mayor Crane said that this was not a decision that was arrived at easily and hopefully they can resume full activities next year. The Cedar Bluff Fire Department will still have their annual BBQ Fundraiser that day – the department is tentatively planning to sell whole Boston Butt.

In other business during the meeting the council approved minutes from the previous meeting in addition to the financial statements for the month of April.

Mayor Crane presented the police department for the month in the absence of Chief Chris O’Neal and Fire Chief Matthew Sprayberry presented the quarterly report for the Fire Department.

A request by Dave Kubach to rezone a portion of property from Rural Residential to Highway Commercial was denied by the council – this property is in the district of Councilman Norman Burton, Burton stated that Highway Commercial Zoning was completely inappropriate for that residential area and made a motion to deny the request. Councilman Donald Sanders was the lone vote in favor of the request.

A request for an application for retail off premises wine/beer was approved for the Cedar Bluff Piggly Wiggly.

Two appointments were also approved for the Cedar Bluff Utility Board – Norman Burton and Bo Martin were reappointed to their respective terms.
