Centre (Awesome) Otters Stand Out at Annual ARPA State Swim Meet in Cullman

OTTERS - aka Awesome OttersOver 1,000 athletes descended on Cullman for the annual ARPA state swim meet last Friday and Saturday (July 26th and 27th). 

Cherokee County was represented by eleven athletes that qualified for thirty events.  Of those thirty events the Centre Otters set personal best times in twenty, including eighteen individual events and two team relays.

The Otters finished with 60.5 points placing them ahead of District rivals Jacksonville, with 57, and Anniston at 31.   To earn team points a swimmer had to be in the top 16 in an event.    

Virginia Rainer led the way with a 9th place finish in the girls 8-and-under girls 50-freestyle, 10th in the 100 IM and 11th in the 25-freestyle

In the 11 and 12 year old girls, Leighton Rainer took 12th in the 50-breaststroke and the 100-freestyle. She earned 13th in the 100 IM while Erin McCord placed 15th in the 50-breaststroke  and the 50-backstroke .

McCord and Rainer also teamed with Ainsley Davis and Alexis Smith for a 13th place finish in the freestyle relay and 14th in the medley relay.

In the 8-and-under boys events, Alex McCord earned 16th in the 50-freestyle, and tied for 16th in the 25-backstroke .

Dru Rainer gathered points for the boys in the 13-14 age group when he came in 13th in the 100-freestyle, and 16th in the 100-individual medley

Other Centre swimmers that were just out of the top 16 were Nathan Whitt, Reid Davis, Carly Duryea and Mia Wright.
