Centre City Council Approves Several Administrative Appointments

During their regular meeting on Tuesday, the Centre City Council approved a number of administrative appointments. Sherry Chandler was reappointed as City Clerk, Kirk Blankenship was reappointed as Police Chief, Jeremy Lee was reappointed as Fire Chief, Al Shumaker – City Attorney and Bill Hawkins – City Judge.

A resolution to appoint a councilmember to the DeKalb-Cherokee Gas Board was tabled. The motion to appoint Mayor Mark Mansfield to the same board passed by a 6-1 vote. 

The Council also approved the payment of routine bills such as utilities, payroll, payroll taxes, insurance and court reports effective November 10, 2020.

A policy for spending was also approved. At the present time each committee chairman can spend $500; each committee chairman can spend $1,500 with the approval of the Mayor and another Councilmember.

The Council also granted permission for the Police Department to surplus a 6 way blade skid steer.

Following some brief discussion, the Council granted permission to Mark Chandler with the Cherokee Life Group to hold small group meetings at the JFK Building.

The city is also looking into the purchase of new Welcome to Centre signs to be placed at four locations coming into town.

Once again, the city has also agreed to participate in the WEIS Radio Shop at Home Campaign. 

The council did enter in an Executive Session to discuss ‘the sale or purchase of property’ and returned with no action taken on the issue.
