The City of Centre will be contracting with the local Red Cross Chapter for services including life guard and CPR classes. Joy Ballenger, Community Chapter Director made the presentation to the Mayor and Council during this week’s Council meeting. The $1,000 agreement will be effective upon signing by the Mayor.
The Fire, Street and Sanitation, and Police Departments will be getting a new ice machine. During the council meeting, $5,000 was allocated for the purchase and installation of the unit to be installed at the Fire Department.
Recreation Committee Chairperson, Bess Yarbrough informed the Council, the REC Committee recommended purchasing two pitching mounds for in order to host upcoming tournaments. The purchase price is $3,617. The measure was approved by the council.
Due to increased interest in baseball for the 13-17 year olds, the council discussed upgrading the previous Babe Ruth field along the Cedar Bluff Road to accommodate the teams. It was decided to complete the upgrades at the Dixie Youth field first then consider the project.
The City is exploring upgrading the internet service. The council authorized the Mayor to work with both local carriers to see which can provide the best service for the city.
The Police Department will be auctioning surplus property with the proceeds to be used for the purchase of additional patrol cars for the department. Chief Blankenship explained the department is on the 10-33 Grant Program through the US Department of Defense. Then after a year of utilizing the equipment it can be sold with proceeds to go back into public safety for the City.
