The City of Centre has made two budget commitments that are guaranteed to bring in additional tourism not only to the City of Centre but throughout the county. During their regular meeting on Monday the council voted to budget $1,000 to next year’s Weiss Lake Improvement Associations Crappie Rodeo and $4,500 to the Crappie USA Tournament.
In other business the council voted to renew contracts with RDS for the collection of sales/use tax and with RDS for the collection of rental/lease tax.
At the recommendation of Tommy Loder, Chairman of the Alcohol Review Committee the council approved an off premises license for retail beer and retail wine to Fred’s Store located in the Cherokee Plaza.
Mayor Tony Wilkie announced that after a lengthy application process the city has approved the hire of Raymond Matthews at the city’s new Building Inspector/Engineer effective immediately.
The council also granted approval to Donna Young to hold water aerobics classes at the city pool on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s from 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. at a cost of five dollars per person.
The next regular meeting of the Centre City Council will be June 27 with a work session at 4:00 and the regular meeting at 5:00.
