It was a brief meeting of the Centre City Council on Tuesday evening. At the recommendation of Billy Mack Garrett, Chairman of the Centre Planning Commission the council approved the rezoning of a parcel of land on U.S. Hwy 411 East from a Mobile Home Area (MHA) to Highway Commercial Classification.
The council also approved the reappointment of Josephine Bandini to the Centre Planning Commission for a six year term.
Also approved were two items for the Centre Police Department, one of which was the purchase of new ballistic vests for each officer. According to Centre Police Chief Kirk Blankenship his department received a 50/50 matching grant for the vests with the city’s portion being $5,340.
Chief Blankenship also received approval from the council to start a ten week Citizen’s Police Academy
Mayor Tony Wilkie reminded everyone that Centre City Hall will be closed on Monday and Tuesday in observance of the Independence Day Holiday.
