Seal bids were opened on a 1999 International 4700 Traumahawk Ambulance which had belonged to the fire department, there was only one bid in the amount of $6,375 from WEIS Radio General Manager Jerry Baker and that bid was accepted unanimously by the council.
Baker said that his plans are for a station mobile broadcast vehicle and that this particular truck meets the specifications for what he wants.
In other business the council approved a $1,000 allocation to CED Mental Health for their upcoming annual Youth Prevention Conference at Gadsden State Cherokee in Centre. That money was budgeted last year.
At the recommendation of Councilwoman Kay Davis, the city has approved the purchase of six new benches for the downtown area. That cost will be $690 per bench plus the cost of shipping. Mayor Tony Wilkie said that the city will be receiving monetary assistance from the downtown business owners. This is just a small step toward a bigger plan to revitalize the downtown Centre area.
