The council also heard from Larry Guffey who is a member of the Board of Directors for Theatre Centre. The organization is requesting that the city consider allocating $20,000 for the next three years to assist the theatre in completing the construction of a new facility which will be located on Northwood Drive near Cherokee County High School – no action was immediately taken on the matter but Mayor Wilkie and several Councilmember’s said they would take the request under advisement.
The council also approved a motion which will allow private lessons at the Centre City Pool from a certified instructor, Mrs. Betsy Rainer has been in charge of swim lessons for the city for several years, and the cost of the lessons would be $80 for four thirty minute sessions and would generate some revenue for the city.
Lee Bailey, Federal Program Specialist with the Cherokee County Board of Education addressed the council about the possibility of the End of School Program using the city pool during their out of school summer programs, the city unanimously approved that motion.
In other business, a motion was approved waiving the regular council meeting for May 22 due to the Alabama League of Municipalities Conference in Montgomery.
