It was a very brief meeting of the Centre City Council this week, which began with Centre Cub Scout Pack #247 leading the audience in the pledge of allegiance and Mayor Tony Wilkie offering some words of gratitude to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice 17 years ago during the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
In other business, Councilman Don Cothran briefly stated that there was some follow up work to be done concerning dilapidated houses throughout the city and that the issue would be revisited at a later date. The council also approved the monthly bills for payment.
The council also approved the posting for a full time position in the streets and sanitation department.
Councilwoman Kay Davis said that the city is continuing to beautify the downtown district and that additional benches and planters have been ordered, she also said that in the near future there will be new signs welcoming everyone to Centre.
Mayor Pro Tem Bess Yarbrough reminds everyone that the annual Fall Festival is coming up October 6th; anyone wishing to volunteer or participate should contact Centre City Hall for more information.
