The Centre City Council, during its Tuesday, July 28 meeting, adopted a resolution agreeing to appoint election officials for the upcoming municipal election in accordance with state law. The municipal election is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 25.
The council met with representatives of the Bay Springs area and agreed to consider a flag pole for the JFK Building. The council agreed to check prices and get back with them on this matter.
The council also discussed with these representatives the need for new playground equipment and other improvements on Bay Springs Road. The council agreed to look into the matter and possibly consider the proposals in their upcoming fiscal 2020-2021 budget.
The council met with a local property owner who recently submitted an application to the city planning (zoning) board which was denied. In the application, the owner requested to have a piece of property rezoined from R1 (single family residential) to R2 (multi family residential) and he asked the council why the request was denied.
Billy Mack Garrett, chairperson, city planning board, was present at the meeting. The zoning board will meet again and reconsider the request.
