The Centre City Council held their regular meeting on Tuesday with a relatively short agenda.
Items include the approval of minutes from previous meetings – with all accounts payable also being approved.
A brief public hearing was held regarding the rezoning of a Parcel of land from Highway Commercial to Multi-Family Residential that property is located near the intersection of Bay Springs Road and the Chestnut Bypass, that property is owned by Donald and Barbara Harris.
There being no opposition to the matter a Resolution was adopted approving the rezoning.
Each of the City’s Department Heads presented their Quarterly reports to the council for approval – the council also approved the renewal for employee insurance with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama.
In other business, Fire Chief Kevin Ware addressed the council concerning an appropriation for a grant recently received by the Cherokee County Association of Volunteer Firefighters; the organization has received a $900,000 plus grant to upgrade their radio system to a P-25 Digital System with all 13 Cherokee County Departments being required to provide a $5,000 match.
Following some lengthy discussion the council agreed to pay their portion.
