Centre City Council Set To Meet With 911 Board Regarding Dispatch Contract

As the Centre City Council continues their ‘fact finding mission’ regarding dispatch services for the police department, the next step will be a meeting with the Cherokee County 9-1-1 Board set to take place at noon on Thursday at Cherokee Medical Center.

Following Monday’s meeting of the Centre City Council we spoke with Centre Mayor Tony Wilkie and he told us that the bottom line is that he feels that the city is being charged more than their fair share for services –

In other business, the council agreed to contribute $1,000 to the Youth Prevention Conference sponsored by CED Mental Health coming up on March 16th at the Gadsden State Cherokee Arena.

The Council also agreed to purchase a half page Ad from the Spirit of Cherokee in support of the Taste of Cherokee and the Miss Snowflake Pageant.  Mayor Wilkie also stated that the Ford pickup truck belonging to Fire Chief Robbie Moon has sold for $13,125 which was the highest bid on the vehicle.

The council also gave their approval for Police Chief Kirk Blankenship to purchase a German Shepherd Drug Dog in the amount $1,500; Chief Blankenship said that the dog is duel trained in tracking and narcotics. That amount includes the training to be certified.
