Centre City Council Votes To Terminate Fire Chief

Following this week’s meeting of the Centre City Council, Councilman Phillip Roberts made a motion to enter into an Executive Session for the purpose of discussing the ‘Good Name & Character’ of an employee.

After several minutes of deliberation the council returned and made a motion to terminate Fire Chief Robbie Moon. According to Centre Mayor Tony Wilkie when Moon was first hired he was given a time-frame as set by the state in which to obtain the necessary certifications required by the Alabama Fire College to be a paid Firefighter.

Unfortunately, Wilkie stated those certifications were not obtained in the appropriate time period and thus the council voted to terminate Moon’s employment as Fire Chief with Councilman Harry Moon abstaining from the vote.

Mayor Wilkie stated that the city will begin accepting applications for the position and that the job will be posted at City Hall and in the newspaper.
