A resident in the John’s Crossroads area dialed 9-1-1 after someone had attempted to enter their home during the early morning hours of Monday.
The suspect was startled by the homeowner and fled into another building.
Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Jamie Parris and Investigator Tony Monroy quickly arrived on the scene and the suspect was immediately apprehended.
According to Sheriff Jeff Shaver, Deputy Parris then transported the subject, identified as 45 year old Derrick Lee Smith of a Centre address to the Cherokee County Detention Center on a charge of Burglary 3rd Degree.
