Kratom was marketed in many different forms such as Liquid Gold, K-Chill, Viva-zen, etc. During the sweep of the city, Narcotics Officers seized a sizable amount of the banned substance.
SB 226 was introduced and passed legislature earlier this year which then headed to Governor Bentley who signed the bill into law on Tuesday evening.
This bill now makes it a Schedule I substance along with methamphetamine, heroin, etc. Many counties and cities have already starting seizing what remained of the banned substances from area stores and retailers.
Chief Kirk Blankenship wants to thank local stores for their cooperation. Chief Blankenship also wants to advise the public to be aware of these changes to the law.
Kratom or any other banned substances bought in another state is still illegal in Alabama and subject to prosecution.
