Centre Police Department Set To Participate In The ‘Wings Over North Georgia Air-Show’

If you heard a rumble from above on Wednesday afternoon, no need to worry you witnessed one of the greatest displays of airmanship in the Country.

The U.S. Navy Blue Angels made a pass through Cherokee County in preparation for the Wings Over North Georgia Air show taking place at the Richard B. Russell Airport in Rome.

Centre Police Chief Kirk Blankenship told WEIS Radio that they have been asked to participate in the show on Saturday and Sunday serving as pilot vehicles on the runway.

This is a special season for the team as it celebrates the 75th anniversary of the team with a stop at the Russell Regional Airport in Rome Oct 30-31.

The show in northwest Georgia is the only appearance by the Blue Angels in the state for the 2021 season. The Blue Angels last performed at the Wings Over North Georgia Air Show in 2017 and attracted record-breaking crowds. The 2021 event requires advance online purchases for tickets and is expected to sell out soon.
