Centre Police Officer Struck By A Rock Thrown From A Vehicle During A Traffic Stop

The Centre Police Department is seeking information in identifying and locating the individual responsible for throwing a rock at an officer during a traffic stop.

Centre Police Chief Kirk Blankenship said the incident occurred on Friday night an officer had a vehicle stopped on the Chesnut Bypass between OK Tire and Cherokee Electric Co-op.

During the course of the traffic stop the officer was struck by a rock thrown from a vehicle and someone inside the vehicle also yelled obscenities at the officer.

The rock struck the officer in the vest area and due to wearing his vest; thankfully the he sustained no injuries.

The vehicle in question is a black or possibly dark colored Dodge pickup truck. Police are currently unsure of the year model of the truck until further videos can be reviewed.

Chief Blankenship said “We will not tolerate our officers being assaulted while on duty. When this person or persons is identified and a full investigation is completed, this person or persons will be prosecuted to the full extent.”
