Centre Police Work Two Accidents on Saturday Afternoon

Centre Police and emergency personnel were busy Saturday afternoon – responding to two separate accidents occurring within an hour of each other.

That first wreck took place on the Chesnut Bypass in front of the Video Hut at around 4:30, and involved a 2006 Nissan Frontier being driven by 68 year old Leroy Steele of Anniston – and a 2002 Ford Taurus driven by 72 year old Yvonne Wright of a Centre address.

Wright was transported by ambulance to Cherokee Medical Center meanwhile a passenger in the Nissan, Brenda Self of Panama City, Florida – was taken to Gadsden Regional Medical Center by ambulance for treatment.

Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene after being disabled in the crash.

At approximately 5:30pm – a two-vehicle accident took place at the red light in front of the Centre Walmart; that accident involved a 2000 Ford Ranger driven by 56 year old Leesburg resident Rickey Hammett, and a 1998 Chevrolet being driven by 48 year old Mark Miller of Scottsboro.

Fortunately, no one was seriously hurt in that mishap, with both drivers only being shaken up. Both vehicles had to be towed.

Those accidents remain under investigation by the Centre Police Department.
