Centre Woman Reported Missing; Last Seen in Ft Payne Area the Day After Christmas / UPDATED

The search continues for a Cherokee County woman reported missing over the weekend.

According to a statement issued on the Ft Payne Police Department Facebook page, Yvonne Wood Covington of Centre was in the Ft Payne area visiting family for Christmas – last seen on Saturday.  The vehicle she was driving was located by the National Park Service the same night, on the Cherokee County side of the Highway 35 Bridge.

WEIS Radio News spoke with National Park Service Public Information Officer Matt Switzer around 10:30 Monday morning and he shared this information with us:

That investigation is being headed up by Ft Payne Police with assistance being provided by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
