Charles Clayton Todd Found Guilty of Attempted Murder

TODDCharles Clayton Todd has been found guilty of Attempted Murder.

After deliberating for around 40 minutes – the jury found Todd guilty of the charge of Attempted Murder along with Robbery 1st Degree and Attempted Arson 1st Degree.

Todd appeared before Circuit Judge Jeremy Taylor in Centre this week with lawyers for both the prosecution and defense giving their final arguments Wednesday morning.

Todd was indicted by a Cherokee County grand jury on April 25th of 2012 on those charges after being accused of breaking into the home of Broomtown resident Carol Lowry on April 19th, and assaulting her with a deadly weapon, stealing property – and then, setting her bed on fire, prior to fleeing the home; fortunately the victim was able to beat out the flames before they spread – then managed to dial 9-1-1 and ask for help.

Law enforcement and emergency personnel quickly responded to the scene where they found the victim suffering serious injuries; she was immediately taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Todd was captured several hours later, at around 11:00 that night in a heavily wooded area off of County Road 60; he was initially charged with second degree assault – however the charges were soon upgraded.

Todds victim has, for the most part, recovered from the brutal attack and she was in the courtroom when the verdict was read Wednesday.

We spoke with Carol Lowry afterwards and she expressed her gratitude to all those who supported her during this trying time.

Judge Taylor has yet to set a sentencing date.

Todd remains in the Cherokee County Detention Center.
